que sensacion!

LP Diresa ES 1973

great spanish soul beat, specially their covers of Dana Gillespie's beat gemm "You Just Gotta Know My Mind" or Rebel Rousers' "Should I?" are extraordinaire. How come a spanish group got to cover these two obscurities is still a mistery. This LP compiles many of the songs found in their 60s EPs in the Sayton label.

Fojetta

SG Palobal ES 1971

great italian fuzzy beat uptempo, quite unknown out there. Well, I wouldn't blame anyone for dumping this record with such a silly pic sleeve! Name mispelling on labels (Foietta)

pork chops / bring it down front

SG ABC US 1967

hammond fuzz shaker alert! instrumental brain melter that breaks down the barriers between funk and psych. If that fuzz guitar combined with the organ and funk drumming doesn't charge your batteries in 5s I guess you must be dead. Unknown, under the radar & uncomped. Some of these guys went to form Rhinoceros, and you can see where Apricot Brandy comes from hearing this

Micky

primitive love / relax now baby

SG Ariola ES 1975

great prog psych with tight percussion and electric piano grooves, backed with a T.Rex styled mid tempo. After his beat period (Micky y los Tonys) Micky went solo in the 70s. For this release he paired with the mighty Fernando Arbex (ex Los Brincos), both songs penned by him, so the sound they got is in the same vein that Arbex was doing in his band, Barrabas

sugestion

EP Ticano ES 1976

insanely rare! spanish cinematic disco funk instrumental with just one word repeated, Sugestion! Has keyboards, wah wah guitar, latin trumpet break and cool female chorus too. This should have been included in the reputated Psicotronica compilations, for sure, but it still remains unknown. 'Brasil Coconuts' is more lounge, also 'Tic Tac', dabadabada style this time with lyrics. Released in the obscure Ticano label

Pedro Maria Sanchez

Encuentro

LP Polydor ES 1979

this is a really cool unknown record. Before focusing on his theatre career, spanish actor Pedro Maria Sanchez teamed up with producer/arranger Eduardo Leiva and Jose Maria Guzman (from Solera and CRAG) to record a set of all self-penned stuff. The result is a solid album spanning soul, dark ballads, soulish rock or even a touch of psych in the closing act (Arde Mi Mente) where Guzman delivers an excellent guitar work
